The route itself takes you through the best of countryside in the New South Wales and with seven National Parks, of which three have been designated as World Heritage Areas by the UNESCO, on the way you are assured of a complete viewing experience of nature being at her best. The name Waterfall itself derives from the enchanting waterfalls that the Dorrigo National Park can boast of and this route provides you that crucial link connecting the inland of New South Wales with the coast. It is therefore a very busy route.
There are a number of activities that you and your family can indulge in as you go along the route. The journey is a wonderful way to discover the great variety of flora and fauna as you see them in their mini-worlds within the rock pools. You can also watch dolphins, boat along the river, take a walk into the rainforest and even camp for the night. There are many holiday packages that you can take advantage of for a complete experience.
These times are such that kids in particular hardly get the time to observe nature closely, hooked as they are on the techno world. When you take them on drives, they are able to observe and build awareness about the wonderful gifts nature has to offer. Since the atmosphere and environment is a casual relaxed one, there is better appreciation and assimilation on their part and this is an education that is an invaluable one which no classroom can provide.
You can drive down to the Coffs Coast and its many beaches are a wonderful place for a picnic. Children will know more about the whales when they visit the Solitary Islands Marine Park. The migration pattern of the Humpback whales, in particular, their breaching behaviour and good sightings through whale watching programs organised at the Coffs Harbour are other attractions they can learn and enjoy.
Other forms of water adventure can be enjoyed through canoe trips down the Bellinger River. As you paddle your way through the water, you can observe turtles, the koalas high up in the trees and experience the pleasant atmosphere of the jungle that is so unique. This is one experience that urban children should never miss out on and as a family picnic, this would be the best experience that you can give them. You can also enjoy a refreshing swim.
The Dorrigo National Park is yet another place where the open space in the forest provides enough opportunities for the children to play and facilities like toilets are also available for a comfortable family picnic outing.
The Waterfall Way is also important from the perspective of sustainable tourism that needs to be followed with eco travel gaining a lot of attention in today’s times.
